Horse Ability

HAVE SAFE FUN WITH YOUR HORSE

or should that be

HAVE A SAFE HORSE THAT IS FUN TO BE WITH

or perhaps

FUN FOR YOU AND YOUR HORSE SAFELY

Whatever we each prefer to call it I think it’s safe to say that we all want to feel safe around our horses and it would be great if we could also feel that they enjoy their lives with us. Whatever your chosen discipline every horse will benefit from being handled and trained in a way that helps them understand what is being asked of them. At the same time we need to include training that helps them manage their ‘hard wired need’ as a prey animal to stay safe at all times. We need to help them moderate their flight instincts and feel safe in our company.

By combining my qualification in Equine Behaviour with my experience and training in Horse Agility, in hand lateral work and French Classical equitation I am now offering a fun new training concept that I have decided to call HORSE ABILITY.

The idea is to address any training gaps to help you fulfil your horse related ambitions so you can have fun or compete safely with your horse. This applies whether you are a leisure rider who wants to do more hacks or fun rides or a competitive athlete.

Shouldn’t we all be trying to make life more fun for our horses?

I am experienced in helping horse owners solve and retrain issues relating to:

  • Leading safely
  • Loading and travelling
  • Coping in unfamiliar environments
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Being braver around unfamiliar objects or surroundings
  • Sensible and polite ground manners
  • Trick training
  • Napping and spooking
  • And all sorts of other issues like not picking feet up, not wanting to be caught in the field etc etc

For ridden and ground work I can also help with

  • Reluctance to ‘go forwards’
  • Asymmetrical horses
  • Unbalanced horses who ‘fall in’ or ‘fall out’
  • Horses that ‘hollow’ or ‘go behind the bit’
  • Horses that lean on the bit
  • Horses that won’t take a contact or lack ridden education
  • Introduction to riding your horse bitless

I can help you develop a training plan to suit you and your horse and your personal circumstances.
