An educational and social network for anyone interested in the welfare and ethical training of horses and riders.
I have founded this network to provide like minded equestrians the opportunity to meet and share knowledge. With the increased accessibility of opinions and information claiming ‘the right way to train, work and ride horses’ it is more and more difficult to know what information to trust and which ‘methods’ to adopt.
This educational forum will allow sharing of knowledge and ideas with the ultimate goal of helping horses learn and feel well because the humans who work with them understand the science or theory behind the method.
I see this network spanning many disciplines because like humans, horses need to feel physically, emotionally and mentally well to work to their best abilities. That’s why the professionals we employ to work with our horses must use ethical methods and share our beliefs and values. By attending these forums I hope to provide a knowledge platform for people to evaluate and decide for themselves.
Each meeting will have an interesting professional who will speak for 45 mins on their specialist subject, the topics will be evidence based and backed up by facts and science. There will then be time for something to eat and drink and spend time networking and meeting interesting people in our local equestrian community.
Having spent several years studying the science of behaviour and learning theory I am unashamedly passionate about training and working with horses. One of my key drivers is that it has to be without fear or stress and using minimal pressure. When I studied learning theory and understood the consequences of using dominance, fear and pain vs. reward based training it totally changed my life and my relationship with my horses, I now very rarely use pressure as a method to teach new behaviours and I have motivated horses who want to learn.
